Many people in our world long to have a real relationship with God. The Christian faith claims that this is possible

It’s great to know that God loves us and longs for us to really know Him.

Jesus told us :-

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

The whole purpose of Jesus coming to this world was that we could really know God and have eternal life.

There are certain facts we need to believe

1. That Jesus is the Son of God. Who came to this world to rescue us from the consequences of the way we live.
2. That He died in my place as a kind of substitute paying the penalty for my sins.
3. That He rose again on the first Easter and is alive now, so I can really know Him like a friend.

There are things we need to do

1. Admit we need to be saved.

There is stuff in our lives that spoils and separate us from God and each other. The bible uses the word ‘sin’ to describe these things. It’s like a virus that infects everything in our lives from our attitudes to our behaviour. This is a serious dilemma, because there is nothing we can do to save ourselves. But the great news is that Jesus came to rescue us from the mess we are in. (The name ‘Jesus’ means ‘God to the rescue) So we need to admit (confess) that we are sinners in God’s sight, we are miles from were we know we should be.


2. Ask Jesus to come into my life to be my personal Saviour.

The book of Revelation records these words of the Risen Lord Jesus :-
"Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me." (Rev 3:20)

So we need to open the door of our lives to Him.

3. Trust Him that He will do what He promises.

Here’s a prayer you might use

Lord Jesus Christ,I am sorry for the things I have done wrong in my life (take a few moments to ask his forgiveness for anything particular that is on your conscience). Please forgive me. I now turn from everything, which I know is wrong. Thank you that you died on the cross for me so that I could be forgiven and set free. Thank you that you offer me forgiveness and the gift of your Spirit. I now receive that gift. Please come into my life by your Holy Spirit to be with me forever.
